Nuakhai, Playwright Rajkumar Sahu Remembers Natya Maharshi Guru Bhagaban Sahu
In Samlarapali village under
Padmapur subdivision,on Nuakhai celebration the famous play Tarpani,
written by playwright Rajkumar Sahu
was staged by the artistes of Gopabandhu
Club and received loud applause from thousands of spectators. The play
depicted the saga of tribal life, the
struggle for rights over forest and land, and the eradication of blind beliefs,
presenting these social issues in a powerful manner.
Before the performance, playwright Rajkumar Sahu was felicitated with
traditional foot-washing honour and an Uttariya by villagers. On this
occasion, he fondly remembered the immortal
contribution of late Theatre Guru Bhagaban Sahu, who had endeavoured to
establish Nuakhai as a festival of this region in a same date .The youth of the
village performed dvSambalpuri folk
dances, adding further charm to the celebration.The play was directed by
Rajkumar Sahu and the music
direction was given by Sheshamohan Sahu.In
the musical presentation, Sachetan Hema
Dholabandh, Jagabandhu Sahu and Bikram Sahu made memorable
contributions. The cast included Ramakant
Sahu, Muna Sahu, Tarani Sahu, Ananta Sahu, Palasti Sahu, Lokeshwar Sahu, Tuna
Sahu, Linga Sahu, Tufan Sahu and Motilal Sahu, among others.Rajkumar
Sahu’s efforts in promoting theatre and
spreading social awareness were highly appreciated by the rural
community as well as the intellectual circles.
